Network and Systems Management Branch Directorate

The Network and Systems Management Branch Directorate was established in 2008 as a result of a new reorganization within the Information Technology Department, through the merger of the Internet Services Branch Directorate and the R&D Branch Directorate’s Systems Management service. Internet services at our university began in 1996 with a single computer using an X-25 line at a speed of 28.800 Kbps and are now provided through metro Ethernet with a 1200Mbit throughput speed.

As of today, our university provides wireless internet service within the campus area and across 17 satellite campuses with 638 access points (APs). To ensure user security, our wireless internet service is provided using the 802.1x protocol.

Since 2005, our university has transitioned to an IP telephone infrastructure. As of March 2010, this service is provided with 1700 phones.

When purchasing materials and performing work, standards recognized globally are followed to create a high-quality and reliable network. All fiber optic and UTP cables, as well as other devices, are used in accordance with these standards. All cabling work done externally is routed through conduits, which has nearly eliminated the occurrence of cable faults throughout the campus.

To maintain regular monitoring of branch activities, a Work Tracking Software that allows for job requests via the web is used. This way, the status of ongoing tasks can be monitored online, and job requests can be submitted via the web without the need for personal visits or paperwork.

Documentation related to network and system operations is also maintained rigorously. Continuous updates are made to schematic diagrams of the university’s entire network and system structure, configuration information of devices, and confidential information. Usage statistics, reports, and analyses related to active network devices are regularly generated, facilitating the identification of problematic areas on the network.

Services Provided

Network Access Services Security issues and permissions, connection processes for central and satellite campuses.

Network Setup Adding new networks in accordance with standards based on requests within the continually expanding infrastructure.

Network Issues and Repairs Technical support services related to network issues.

IP Telephony Configuration of IP phones and their peripherals. Support is provided to users for any issues that arise.

Wireless Internet Configuration of APs. Ensuring the continuous operation of the system.

Servers Management of all servers in the university’s data center and the services running on these servers.

Backup Performing backups of servers in accordance with backup policies.

Domain Name and Web Space Services Providing domain name and web space services to university departments, symposiums, conferences, and all administrative and academic staff in collaboration with the Computer Research and Application Center.

Proxy Service Providing proxy services to university staff to access library resources from outside the campus.
